Best Table Topic on Be a rainbow in someone else's cloud

Rainbow from Wikipedia

I won best table topic speaker jointly on Friday September 24th 2021 in a Singapore Online Dynamic speakers' meeting. My topic was be a rainbow in someone else's cloud. I said:

We all want to be a rainbow in somebody else's cloud. And we'd all like somebody to be a rainbow in our cloud. Unfortunately, some people are clouds in our rainbow. My rule is three rains and you are out. I can't be a rainbow when somebody else is a perpetual cloud. Now the weather in the UK is variable. Cloud rain, cloud rain. But how do you distinguish a friend from an enemy? A friend is more rainbow than cloud. If somebody is a rainbow all your life, and you are their rainbow, then one day a cloud falls, you are ready to go to help. If they are a double cloud, they blot out your rainbow and you are no use to anybody. If you are one rainbow, you brighten one day. the next day they are in the cloud again. If you give a little extra, a double rainbow, enough is left over to brighten their tomorrow.

Sometimes complete strangers step in to help. I'd rather be a rainbow with somebody else's rainbow and make a double rainbow.

Wouldn't that be gorgeous. I hope my speech is more rainbow than cloud, so I'll say the word rainbow twice, rainbow, rainbow, double rainbow.

My winning table topic on Donald Trump at Lucknow Toastmasters club in India

 May 15 2021.

Question

You must persuade the captain of the ship to give you a life belt. You have a choice of three people.

(I chose Donald Trump. I said:)

"It's absolutely clear you must save me because you will go down in history as the person who saved the President of the United States, the former President, but I could be President yet again, because I was voted in - and what they did once they could do again.

"We all have our ups and downs, everyone does, and I've had a down, but you should hang on, and there's a chance you might live.

"You're doing to go down in history and you could live and be famous, forever. If you give me that life belt, I will have your name engraved at a new university, named after you, and give an opening speech about you, and a statue for you.

"And your family will all be VIPs. And your family will have hotel stays at my hotels. Don't worry about visas.

"Now, I am a big man and need this life belt.  But if you've a good swimmer, and you can hang on, I will reach out and support you. You might live.

"Regardless, you will go down in history. You could live and be famous forever. You cannot afford to miss this offer."

How I Won Best Table Topics Ribbon for an impromptu speech on Collaboration

At Harrovian Speakers club on Monday July 3rd, 2017 I was the best table topics speaker ribbon for an impromptu speech on Collaboration.

I said:

I helped organize a session on mentoring at the Club Officer training. Only two people at this (Harrovians Speakers club) meeting, Kavita and me, were there, so it will be news to you
this was a collaboration from the start.

My speech on mentoring at HOD Toastmasters club had seen by Kavita, Area Director,  who asked me to run a session demonstrating mentoring at the Club officer Training, attended by committee members of the four clubs in the area.

Kavita said it was a 15 minute spot, which I could share with two members of my mentoring committee, Loran and Ruth. Easy. I only had to speak for five minutes. Easy. I'd given sessions on mentoring previously using HQ slides.

I just needed to check that Ruth and Lorna and I did not overlap. I emailed Ruth and Lorna and asked one of them to speak on mentoring advantages for clubs, and mentors, and mentees. and one to speak on the challenges of pairing up mentors and mentees. They both emailed back, useful information. But both were away on the training date.

So I emailed Indra, who was my original mentor, and had done mentoring sessions with me previously. I want away on holiday, leaving Indra to liaise with Kavita. I told Kavita I had no time to make new slides. So she asked a member of an in house club to make slides.

On the night it was a great success. We needed with my calling Indra on stage, demonstrating taking a selfie of mentor and mentee, which is done in Singapore. Six people collaboration for a successful session.

2 Relates to everyone.
3 Metaphor.
4 Twist end.

It is a mini-sermon.

Successful Speech, Table Topic on Writing by Angela Lansbury in 2014

On Monday 2014 I won a ribbon at Harrovian Toastmasters speakers club for best table topic (impromptu speech) on the subject of writing.
Angela Lansbury (Immediate Past President of Harrovian Speakers) presented with a ribbon by President Gosbert Chagula.

The topic was:
You are a successful writer - how many books have you written and how do you do it? Give us your advice.

I have written ten books for mainstream publishers and ten self-published. All books need a lot of research. It's the same as writing a speech. You start by researching. Then you put everything in logical order. Most beginning writers and speakers think it's easier to write what you want. But it's easier to have a framework and slot in your research. For example, when I wrote an article on visiting Champagne Cellars in Rheims for Take A Break magazine, they said start with a quotation and end with tips for visitors. I began with a quotation by Napoleon, Champagne, in victory you deserve it - in defeat you need it. I ended with a tip, wear warm clothes to visit cold wine cellars. Research and organise - that's the key to writing a book.
