Are Your Words Positive, Neutral or Negative?

Words can see positive, neutral or negative.

The only way to be sure of establishing goodwill is to start with a positive statement. Such as, looking forward to seeing you.

But, when we are in a hurry, we sometimes don't have time. That's when you can reply with one word, such as noted, or great, or a smiley face.

When I joined a new club a senior committee member sent me a one-liner, "Why do you want to join our club?"

I was stunned. I thought he meant, 'What's your ulterior motive? I'm the bigwig in this club. Why are you joining to rival me!'

But weeks later, I read the instruction from Toastmasters International for retaining members was, ask what the member hopes to achieve, so you can help them along, satisfy their needs and retain them as a member.
