My Prize Winning Table Topic on Tall People at Singapore Online Dynamic Speakers Friday June 11 2021


Table topics are impromptu speeches. However, if you have heard many introductions by the table topics masters who introduce the topics, you will have learned certain structures and features. Tell a personal story. Be visual. Create pictures in the mind of the listener.

Topic

Tall people take the initiatives.

My Comment

 Being small naturally I have an opinion on being tall. Yes, it is obvious that tall people take the initiative when it comes to reaching things in high cupboards, and shelves. (Add 'in supermarkets'.) 



Small people need help from tall people - which is why we small people take the initiative in looking for somebody tall to help us. It is teamwork.




 On our own we small people have to take the initiative such as climbing up a ladder.

Which reminds me of when I was in Japan as a student. We had all won a trip to Japan by writing an essay saying why we wanted to visit Japan. We had free accommodation in a youth hostel

 We were late back to our hostel at night, and the gate was locked. The fence was a high metal net like tennis court netting.


The tallest person climbed up and over.
 Then the next. I was last. And I looked up, and thought, 'I'll never get over that!'

 I sat down on the ground, wondering what to do. Then I noticed that the netting was raised up in one place. Like a wave.



By pulling it up a bit further I was able to crawl underneath! 

So small people sometimes have to take the initiative. But mostly it is better if small people take the initiative - and team up with tall people!

In Singapore she has been a member of TCS which meets at the Sheraton hotel and because of the venue is one of the few clubs allowed to have hybrid meetings in 2021. Angela joined Singapore Online Dynamic speakers, as soon as it was started and first run by the far-sighted and efficient techie Willie Loh. Singapore Online has the advantages of being permanently online, and shifted its hours from the usual Singapore time of 7 to 9 to 9 to 12, enabling Singaporeans to work late on Friday, attend an earlier club, and those in other countries such as those in Europe and the UK, and even far away North, Central and South America and the Caribbean to attend.
In the coming term Angela will be VP PR (Vice PResident public relations) of Braddell Heights Advanced, as well as Tampines Changkat Advanced. Two advanced clubs started by seniors speakers who wanted workshops and advanced mentors. Both of which are also provided by Singapore Online. Braddell Heights Advanced meets twice a month. Singapore online meets every week, useful if you want to race through the Toastmasters programmes called Pathways. Why would you want to race through? Because you need to catch up fast to give presentations at work. To find a new job or start a new business. In order to teach and train others. Because you are retired and time is running out.

Recent meetings of BHA included an educational session on using Powerpoint for posters.
Next BHA meetings, always first Wednesday evening, 7 pm Singapore time. Next meeting is  the third Saturday afternoon, June 19th 2pm Singapore time.  Inauguration of the new committee was by the incoming Director of S, plus a lively speech on teamwork.
